This spicy baked fish is delicious, healthy and ready in 20 minutes.
It always surprises me how easy it is to cook fish. The only drawback I find with fish though, is that it can be on the bland side. The exception being salmon which I adore and is anything but bland. That’s why I came up with this spicy baked fish dish. All the goodness of fish but with a little kick, too.
As a Brit, I love my fish dipped in batter and deep-fried to perfection. Add some thick chips and a few scraps and I am in heaven. Not so awesome for the waistline though.
This dish is not only quick and simple but really healthy, too. It’s baked so there’s no need for tons of fat – just a touch of olive oil is all that is needed.

Spicy Baked Fish (ready in 20 minutes)
Ingredients
- 500g (17½ oz) fish fillets (see note 1)
- 2 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp oregano
- ¼ tsp chilli powder
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ⅛ tsp dill
- salt & pepper (to personal taste)
- 1 tbs olive oil (more if needed)
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 225ºC (435°F). Line a large tray with aluminium foil.
- Mix all the ingredients together (apart from the olive oil and fish) in a bowl.
- Place the fish on the tray and brush with olive oil. Sprinkle the spices over the top. Do both sides if you like (you may need a double batch of the spices to do this).
- Bake for 10 minutes then serve immediately with noodles, rice, potatoes or anything else you like.
Notes
- Use any fish you like (fresh or frozen - but defrost before cooking).
Hi Tracy. Yes, fish can be bland so I have tried this in a few variations. The best was roasting onion, garlic and peppers a bit in the oven and, when they are nearly done, add the fish with the spices. Yum.
Sounds delicious, Jan!
